In the late 1990s The Mosleys were firing on all cylinders with their brand of timeless, melodic, roots-inspired music. They gained fans like Nick Lowe and attracted the attention of ABC News and ruled the Riverwest music scene.
So after a slew of self-released rollicking albums and a legendary residency at Linnemanns Riverwest Inn in Milwaukee, the trio took a break.
Dave Braun jumped on the swing craze with The Swing-O-Matics as well as a jazz album with Matt Miller. Mike Fredrickson kept himself busy releasing solo albums, playing bass with Robbie Fulks and Paul Cebar, and painting. Guitarist Royce Hall Jr. headed for the wilds of Manitowoc where he played gigs and honed his already impressive guitar chops.
Since reforming in 2015 the Mosleys have branched out, seeking new territory and venturing into the uncharted areas like Bay View. They have also announced a Kickstarter fundraiser for a new lp, because they are modern guys and that is how things get done. “The best guitarist you’ve ever seen.” Royce Hall has been playing guitar professionally since the age of 14. He’s even been called a “virtuoso” by many. He has… Won a WAMI award (Wisconsin Area Music Industry) in 2002 for best guitarist.
Worked as a session guitarist in New York doing soundtracks, TV commercials and voiceovers. Session credits also include an award-winning independent short film.Accompanied many musicians including Milwaukee legend Sigmund Snopek, Peter Noone, Billy J. Kramer, Bun E. Carlos, legendary keyboardist Delmar Brown, and most importantly… Mike Fredrickson and Dave Braun, from Milwaukee’s hottest band, The Mosleys! Been honored to be the only Wisconsin musical artist to have a concert hall at UCLA named after him…?!
A bassist, some say Fredrickson came out of the farm country southwest of Madison WI. in the late 50's. After losing their farm in 66' the family moved to Middleton where Fredrickson grew up. His parents divorced and his mother retained custody of the three children. After high school he drifted to Madison, Cross Plains, and finally to Milwaukee.
There he honed his craft in many bands. From 80 to 82 it was Scott Free and the Getaways. From 82 to 85 it was the Bohemian Club. From 86 to 91 it was the Spanic Boys. From 91 to 93 it was 9 Volt Jubilee. From 94 to 2000 it was the Mosleys. From 2000 to 2002 it was El Supremo. From 2002 to 2010 it was Robbie Fulks. From 2008 to 2016 it was with Paul Cebar and Tomorrow Sound. And in the summer of 2015 the Mosleys had a reunion and decided to give it a go again.Highlights of these years include playing at the Grand Ole Opry, Saturday Night Live, A Prairie home Companion, Tina Fey's Surprise birthday party and gigs from Fairbanks Alaska to Key West Florida.
Drummer Dave Braun is a Shapeshifter of sorts. Comfortable playing with Blues acts like The Robert Allen Jr Band, Alex Wilson, or Reverend Raven, as well as swingin’ hard with the big band jazz of The Swing-O-Matics! "It helps to have played many different styles" Dave says, "because The Mosleys music covers alot of ground". Whatever the setting, Dave lays it down with extreme conviction.
When he's not hittin’ the skins with The Mosleys, you’ll find Dave tucked away in his graphic arts studio, “Hashbrauns Creative” where he admits to being a complete computer graphics nerd.
